Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park

Visitor Guide

Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park

The best standalone destination among the parks we visited, with a skatepark, exercise equipment, visitor center, open fields, shade, and room to spend more time.

Oso Park

Visitor Guide

Oso Park

A compact neighborhood park that works well as a place to sit, meet, or pause on the way to the river. The local-animal sculptures give it a clear identity.

Great Heron Gates at Rattlesnake Park

Visitor Guide

Rattlesnake Park

A small but effective river-path pause with shade, benches, planting, and a view of the water. It is easy to miss when approached as a standalone destination.

Sunnynook park, view of pedestrian birdge. Opuntia in the foreground.

Visitor Guide

Sunnynook Park

A useful access point and pause along the LA River path, with a pedestrian bridge, seating, planted slopes, and a good view into the river channel. Navigation is less obvious than it should be.

Field Note

The LA River Pocket Parks in Frogtown

A morning visiting the LA River pocket parks in Frogtown and Elysian Valley became a lesson in how small public spaces, restoration, graffiti, and civic attention change the experience of the river.
