Raised beds

Overview

A community garden demonstrating growing your own produce in beautiful raised beds. A great spot to check out if walking or driving by. They also collect food waste for compost and do occasional workshops.

The place

Monrovia Community Garden is a partnership between the City of Monrovia and Mountainside Communion at 303 West Colorado Boulevard. The garden is open to the public, while individual growing plots are assigned to registered plotholders.

What to see

Raised beds, garden rules, corn, basil, tomatoes, and other edible crops. The official garden site also describes a community compost area, fruit trees, a seed library, pollinator-garden resources, and seasonal workshops.

Garden design

The garden is organized primarily around raised growing beds. Public areas and plotholder spaces are separated, with fruit trees and fencing marking some of the private growing areas.

Home garden takeaways

The garden demonstrates raised-bed food production, seasonal vegetable growing, community composting, irrigation, fruit-tree care, seed sharing, and pollinator gardening.

Before you go

The public garden is at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. Visitors are welcome to walk through the public garden and attend scheduled workshops.

The official site asks visitors to park in the church parking lot, in the alley west of the building, or next to the dumpster. Individual plots may be behind fences and are reserved for plotholders.
